Why Choose a Safe Electric Registered Installer?
An EV charger is not simply a device that can be connected to an existing socket.
A home EV charger can deliver significantly more electrical power than a standard domestic socket, so the installation needs to be properly assessed, designed, installed and tested.
Using a Safe Electric registered electrical contractor helps ensure that the electrical work is carried out by an authorised professional and that the required certification is completed.
This is particularly important because Safe Electric registration is a requirement of the SEAI Home Charger Grant.
At TJ O’Brien Electrical, we take the safety of your home and electrical installation seriously.
A professional EV charger installation includes:
-
Assessment of your existing electrical installation
-
Suitable positioning of the charger
-
Assessment of the route from the electrical distribution board to the charger
-
Appropriate electrical protection
-
Correct cable sizing and installation
-
Installation of the EV charging equipment
-
Testing and commissioning
-
Electrical certification
-
Completion of the documentation required for the SEAI grant process
Your EV charger should be installed as an electrical installation — not treated as a DIY plug-in appliance.
EV Charger Installation for Your Home
A properly installed home charger makes charging your EV simple.
Instead of relying on public charging points, you can plug your vehicle in at home and charge it while you're there.
SEAI notes that home charging is generally the cheapest way to charge an electric vehicle, and home charging can also allow drivers to take advantage of lower-cost electricity periods where their electricity tariff supports them.
A typical home charger can provide substantially more charging power than a standard domestic socket, making dedicated home charging a convenient option for EV owners.
What Happens When You Book an EV Charger Installation?
1. We Assess Your Property
We look at your electrical installation, parking arrangement, charger location and the distance between the charger and your electrical distribution board.
The location of the fuse board and the cable route can affect the complexity and cost of the installation.
2. We Help You Choose the Right Charger
There are different EV charger options available, so the right choice depends on your vehicle, property and charging requirements.
If you are applying for the SEAI grant, the charger must meet the scheme's eligibility requirements.
3. We Install Your EV Charger
Our electrical installation is completed by a Safe Electric registered electrical contractor, in accordance with the applicable electrical installation requirements.
4. We Test & Certify the Installation
After installation, the system is tested and the appropriate certification and test documentation are completed.
SEAI requires a Certificate Number 3 and Test Record Sheet as part of the grant claim process.
5. Complete Your SEAI Grant Claim
Once the installation is complete, you can submit the required documentation to SEAI, including the relevant certificate, test record, invoices and photographs.
SEAI verifies the documentation before processing the payment.
